The authenticity of the word characterless or चरित्रहीन… Who decides?
Google says “the mental and moral qualities distinctive of an individual” refers to CHARACTER.
AND, anyone who has no mental abilities or is morally deranged, he or she is CHARACTER LESS!
In today’s world, I find these two words very superfluous and inappropriate.
I can explain…
To us, a person
who ogles the opposite sex
Whoever passes with unhealthy remarks or gestures:
who has had numerous affairs.
who speaks a foul language in public,
who indulges in intoxication and abuse;
who is outspoken and at ease with others.
Who now lays down that thin line between two words??
A person who is very Lovable, good to others, helpful, socially viable ( other positives etc)
BUT, loves to be in the company of the opposite sex and indulges in some intoxication.
Is the person characterless or characterful at the same time?
AND :
A person who is very abusive and boisterous to society, indulges in paid sex, does all intoxication work, BUT, is very helpful to his peer group, does excellent social work, helps the poor by all his means … What is his status?
Broadly speaking in today’s scenario Every Politician, Bollywood, Celebrity or Business Tycoon can be labelled characterful or characterless in different situations.
It has to be either black or white. How can you have an undefined grey?
In modern times when Homosexuality is legalised, living in relationships is justified, open bars and Hukka fiestas are ok, and to top it all, people have a penchant for accepting the illegitimacy of childbirth as a birthright … So where does the definition of Characterless exist, and what is the definition of “Characterless”?
I think it’s more judgmental to label someone with this adjective.
In today’s scenario and the Chandrayaan period, anything done with good intentions, open hearts and minds without harming anyone in person or society should be spared from the CHARACTER barricading.
No one should have a right to ostracize the person who thinks what he is doing is correct.
In my last article, I had mentioned the audacity of a Bolly wood diva who proclaimed to have done justice by giving birth to a child out of wedlock. There was a group who actually adulated the lady’s gesture, saying that it’s her forte to decide what she wants to do in life.
Well correct..it should be everyone’s right to do so.
There is no so-called Constitution with underlined lines and verses.
So as society moves leaps and bounds towards modernisation where is the scope for the word CHARACTER?
I think in the present times we should discuss the character of the monsoons, the character of stray ‘saand’ and howling monkeys who have joyfully invaded our premises or the character of the snarling traffic and jams.
BUT,
Rest on our judgemental attitude towards the doings of the people living around us.
Just remembered the famous dialogue from an old movie Waqt….
चिनॉय सेठ , जिनके महल शीशे के होते हैं, वो दूसरों पर पथ्थर नही फेंकते हैं…
If we are true to ourselves then we have shades of actions that are uncouth and unacceptable. We’re committing at some stage of our lives.
The so-called Crusaders need to know and understand the purity of social breathing and divulge the unnecessary assassination of someone’s character on the scale of their whims.
